Kitchen Gardens

We have a large walled kitchen garden with three glasshouses, one of which houses a Black Hamburg Grapevine which was planted in 1868 which we believe is the second oldest in the country.   The large glasshouse has fan-trained peaches and apricots on the walls with various seasonal flowers and vegetables.  The third glasshouse is used for house plants and propagation purposes.   Pears, figs and cherries are trained around the perimeter walls of the kitchen garden and the gardens themselves produce a wide range of cut flowers, vegetables soft fruit and apples.

Several volunteers work in the gardens at Hackthorn Hall and are involved in a wide variety of garden tasks depending on the seasons and needs.  We always have garden projects of some sort underway and would be pleased to welcome further volunteers if you feel this would interest you.  Please contact us on 01673 860423 or by email to: office@hackthorn.com
